52 herciosAdos Teatroa
Notes
The Basque version will be performed on 14 March.
52 Hertz by Ados Teatroa is a tragicomedy in the form of "overlapping lives", addressing the issue of social isolation. The solitude of the migrant, the old man in his care homes, the professional in his bubble, or the young woman who cannot bear the pain of living: a multifaceted vision of a pandemic which affects 1 in every 5 people.
The title refers to the frequency of a strange sound recorded over the last 35 years at different locations in the Pacific, similar to the song of a blue whale. But blue whales communicate on frequencies ranging from 10 to 39 hertz, and so the voice of this strange "solitary whale", resonating at 52 Hz, lies outside the hearing range of the species. The "52 hertz whale" is believed perhaps to have been born deaf, and so never learned to utter its song at the right frequency. No other whale has ever been able to hear its call.
