No pares (sigue, sigue)Sergi Casero
Sergi Casero’s No pares (sigue, sigue) is a participatory performance that uses humor to investigate the violence hidden behind the imperative of effort, improvement, and perpetual self-realization characteristic of turbocapitalism. The project unmasks the forms of violence and domination that lie behind the euphoria and optimism of success and self-improvement narratives, revealing the guilt, self-punishment, and dissatisfaction that accompany them.
Somewhere between a spinning class and a performative lecture, the piece presents itself as a modern Sisyphus trapped in incessant pedaling. A performance that repeats in a loop, attempting to surpass itself with each turn to reach the next level, recognition, and success, always out of reach. With an enthusiastic tone and merengue house music in the background, the audience is progressively seduced into becoming part of this self-exploiting delirium.
Beyond revealing the incompatibility of neoliberal temporalities and narratives with our bodies, the performance proposes strategies that allow us to collectively break with the inertia of productivity and its mechanisms of seduction.
