Sáhara. La barca del desierto (Sahara. The Desert Boat), by the company Unahoramenos Producciones,  tells the story of a Canarian nurse who arrives in Laayoune in 1970, intending to take up a temporary job at the local hospital. However, her life undergoes a radical change when she falls in love Yahadih, a young Sahrawi who joins the Polisario Front to fight for the independence of Western Sahara.

This work has been developed following research undertaken at the Sahrawi refugee camps in January 2025. The main aim was to gather eyewitness accounts, learn first-hand about the reality of the exiled Sahrawi people, and to discover the historical, social and cultural elements which served as the foundations in creating this show.

With a blend of love, betrayal and resistance, Sáhara. La barca del desierto bears human witness to the personal transformation of a woman trapped between two worlds, and the struggle of a free people who refuse to disappear.
